Gelandesprung translates from German to English as "Terrain Jump". We've learned that traditionally it is a long distance ski jump off a natural feature but has been more commonly jumping off a Nordic Ski Jump with an Alpine configured ski.....usually as long as you can find usually a 230 or DH board.
I found an event at Sugarbush VT that looks like it's scheduled for February of 2016 and appears to be the third consecutive year......can't find a lot of detail on it.
Snow Bowl in Missoula MT has the oldest active jump which seems to get some use and an annual event with a nice purse. I saw 2014 as 2015 was cancelled due to lack of snow.
Steamboat also has an event annually http://t.steamboattoday.com/news/2015/feb/08/salt-lake-citys-josh-hanson-wins-winter-carnival-g/?templates=tablet is the link to a cool article about it. The winner flew 108 meters or over 350' or an entire football field and an end zone. Apparently this is the "Big Jump" and they get less than 10 brave souls to compete.
Gelande Quaffing in Jackson is different http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/mar/17/gelande-quaffing-eighth-annual-apres-ski-competition-beer
Gelande jumping is awesome get out to Montana or Colorado and maybe Vermont to support it. Let us know if you come by any other events that we might post.
No reason it shouldn't be an Alaskan event. Although it is hard to top Arcticman!
