Speed Skiing Is Very Cool

So last time we discussed the merits of Ski Jumping and had a conversation about not only how awesome and gnarly it was but why it wasn't more popular and common here in our home country. Since then I have taken a few steps to move in the direction of being allowed to hit a local jump. I stumbled through the questions about how comfortable I was on telemark / Nordic style setup and what I pictured the whole event looking like from start to finish if I lacked confidence in those fundamental requirements. Needless to say I've got some work to do before I actually take the "test" to allow me to hit the jump. They did say that I could hit it in my GS skis no problem with a signed waiver and a waiting ride to the ER. I want the full treatment but I will likely try it both ways if it all comes together. We will see how that all works out.
The best thing to come out of the discussion was where it led from there. If you're going to start a conversation about less common ski competition it will never be complete without the mention of speed skiing!
Oh ya speed skiing is awesome! Want to see it in North America? You CAN! FIS event in Canada (Sun Peaks BC) in April /May! Both Men and Women. 
Someone did send Rex a poster signed by the Origone Brothers from an Industry show, it is our favorite poster .... So badass.
We encourage you to support this discipline of our sport. Attached is an article that talks about Bode running against some of these guys and finishing 8th.......I'd say that speaks to the difficulty and athleticism! We're having some trouble picturing how an amateur event could be organized and executed at one of our resorts. No doubt it would be fun as hell but that policy would be pricey and finding a venue to cooperate would be a challenge as well. We'll get to work on it though right after the ski jump.
